Frequently Asked Questions
What is a day-to-day plan?
A day-to-day plan is health insurance cover that provides day-to-day benefits and emergency hospital care. It is a short-term insurance product and not a medical aid. The goal of a day-to-day plan is to help South Africans afford private healthcare ranging from GP consultations with acute/chronic medication, specialists visits and allied health services like dentistry and optometry.
Can medical aid members join?
Yes. A day-to-day plan is a short-term insurance product with healthcare benefits. Medical aid members can top up their cover by signing up for a primary care plan. It is an affordable option for medical aid members with only a hospital plan. The day-to-day primary care plan offer some out-of-hospital benefits at a reasonable rate.
Who qualifies for day-to-day cover?
A day-to-day plan is suitable for all South Africans who can afford the cover. The plan can cover an individual or an entire family. It is a convenient top up if you have only a medical aid hospital plan. It is also suitable for people with no medical aid cover. With a vast network doctors, dentists and other practitioners throughout the country, most South Africans will be able to access medical care.
Are there hospital benefits?
A day-to-day plan focuses on out-of-hospital benefits including unlimited GP consultations, basic dentistry, optometry, radiology, pathology, limited specialist visits as well as acute.chronic medication. A hospital benefit is available under the emergency and accident option which can be combined with the day-to-day option. However, this hospital benefit is not extensive as a medical aid hospital plan and is limited emergency and accident-related medical care in a hospital.
How does a day-to-day plan work?
A day-to-day plan is intended to cover day-to-day medical benefits. This includes GP consultations, acute and chronic medication, basic dentistry, optometry, radiology (x-rays), basic blood tests and limited specialist visits. The cover only applies to designated service providers (network doctors). Additional emergency cover can be purchased for hospital care in the event of an accident. A vaccination program and telephonic counselling service is available.
